چکیده
Epiphyas postvittana (Walker, 1863) is an invasive polyphagous pest for the Azores and its bioecology potential natural enemies were unknown. We evaluated temporal profile of this species larval abundance number males captured in sex pheromone traps, hypothesizing that both profiles similar. The study was carried out on seven endemic host plants one native grown two forest nurseries (Furnas Nordeste) São Miguel Island over years from 2018 to 2019. A total 827 attacked by E. observed Furnas nursery (2018: 503, 2019: 324) 1227 Nordeste 649, 578), including presence 525 larvae distributed 178, 79) 131, 137). In 2019, average weekly traps (total 31 weeks) higher (mean ± SE: 9.68 1.982) than (3.33 0.651). synthesis, (i) population density varied throughout year as a function plant production; (ii) adults suggests has at least three four generations per are active year-round, experiencing some delayed development during winter; (iii) low does not represent very serious damage Azorean plants, but reflected enemies; (iv) biological control agents present field, parasitizing (i.e., Braconidae Meteorus ictericus (Nees, 1811) Microgaster opheltes Nixon, 1968); (v) finally, knowledge dynamics needs further long-term study.

Host Plants Affect the Foraging Success of Two Parasitoids that Attack Light Brown Apple Moth Epiphyas postvittana (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)
The light brown apple moth, Epiphyas postvittana is a key pest of wine grapes in Australia. Two parasitoids, Dolichogenidea tasmanica and Therophilus unimaculatus, attack the larval stage of this pest. D. tasmanica is dominant in vineyards, whereas T. unimaculatus is mainly active in native vegetation. We sought to understand why they differ in their use of habitats. Plants are a major componen...
متن کاملHuman Leptospirosis: Seroreactivity and Genetic Susceptibility in the Population of São Miguel Island (Azores, Portugal)
BACKGROUND Leptospirosis is a worldwide zoonotic and recognized neglected infectious disease. It has been observed that only a proportion of individuals exposed to pathogenic species of Leptospira become infected and develop clinically evident disease. Moreover, little information is available in subsequent reinfections. In the present study, we determine if a first infection with leptospirosis...

A molecular assay for diagnosis of light brown apple moth, Epiphyas postvittana (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), in North America is reported. The assay multiplexes two TaqMan real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) probe systems that are designed to target DNA segments of the internal transcribed spacer region 2 (ITS2) and 18S rRNA gene. The RT-PCR probe designed for the 18S target re...
متن کاملLandslides density map of S. Miguel Island, Azores archipelago
The Azores archipelago is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is composed of nine volcanic islands. S. Miguel, the largest one, is formed by three active, E-W trending, trachytic central volcanoes with caldera (Sete Cidades, Fogo and Furnas). Chains of basaltic cinder cones link those major volcanic structures. An inactive trachytic central volcano (Povoação) and an old basaltic volcanic complex ...
متن کاملCarriers of the Complex Allele HFE c.[187C>G;340+4T>C] Have Increased Risk of Iron Overload in São Miguel Island Population (Azores, Portugal)
Iron overload is associated with acquired and genetic conditions, the most common being hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) type-I, caused by HFE mutations. Here, we conducted a hospital-based case-control study of 41 patients from the São Miguel Island (Azores, Portugal), six belonging to a family with HH type-I pseudodominant inheritance, and 35 unrelated individuals fulfilling the biochemical cr...
